Bogotá Feel the Party: the parade of comparsas returns

This Sunday, August 21, from 11:00 am, dance and theater take to the streets of Bogota during the parade Bogota Feel the Partya new opportunity for citizens to meet art and culture in a show that will dress the city center in colors.

For the seventh race, from Plaza La Santamaría to the Bolivar plaza; More than 1,000 artists, including boys, girls, youth and adults divided into 25 troupes will be parading through the city center. Of these, 20 comparsas will be in charge of representing the localities of the city, after benefiting from the call ‘Bogotá Feels the Party’, which is part of the 2022 District Stimulus Program.

The other five groups are part of the Calle de la Alegría of the Ibero-American Theater Festival, and will participate with their activity ‘Río de la Vida’, with which they promise to make all Bogotans vibrate with the four platforms of the minstrels arranged to the occasion. These scenarios will be located in the Plazoleta de la Universidad de Los Andes, Parque de los Periodistas, Parque Santander and Plaza de Bolívar. Street performances will also be presented in various artistic modalities.

“After two years, we will meet again to enjoy the emblematic and colorful parade of comparsas Bogotá feels the party. It is time to celebrate in the streets to enjoy the culture of the capital through theater and dance and continue celebrating Bogotá’s birthday. This is also the opportunity to meet and support the projects of entrepreneurs who work for street performing arts. I invite the citizens to live this great party”.

Parallel to the celebration of Bogotá Feel the Party, there will also be a space for the Ventures and Products Window of the Street Performing Arts (Vepae). This will be articulated with Made in Bogotá, a strategy organized by the District Secretary of Economic Development.

A total of 60 local producers and entrepreneurs from sectors that include, among others, fashion, footwear, handicrafts, jewelry, culture or performing arts; they will have their stands in the Plaza de Bolívar. Attendees will also be able to enjoy a varied gastronomic offer, as well as the presence of the traditional Peasant Markets with fresh products, at fair prices and without intermediaries.

Alfredo Bateman, District Secretary for Economic Development, provided more details about the Fair:

“Made in Bogotá a new way of buying and selling local, continues its journey throughout the city. In the first six fairs we have benefited 144 production units with a total sales record of 300 million pesos. This Sunday, August 21, the strategy arrives at the Plaza de Bolívar. That is why I invite all citizens to participate in this great meeting of culture, theater and entrepreneurship. Bogotá Feels the Party on its 484th birthday supports its local producers and entrepreneurs”

The program of the event also includes an exhibition of street performance costumes and a business conference in the performing arts sector, in which seven buyers and 60 cultural agents will participate, including producers, artists creators and programmers of national and regional festivals.
