The recent days of violence in different states of the country have put different organized crime groups at the center of conversation and debate. One of them is the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
On August 9, multiple narco-blockades and aggressions terrified the population of Jalisco and Guanajuato. When elements of the Armed Forces interrupted a meeting between members of the CJNG and captured several of them, the criminal group reacted violently.
The first unofficial versions of the events indicated that among those present at the meeting who had been arrested was Ricardo Ruiz Velasco, alias The Double Rlieutenant of the cartel of the four letters.
Such suspicion spread massively during the following days despite the fact that the name of this criminal leader was not found in the registry of detained persons. Also, no authority had confirmed his capture.
It was until last August 15 that Luis Cresencio Sandovalhead of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), stated that, in fact, The Double R had not been arrested.
The uncertainty about the whereabouts of Ricardo Ruiz Velasco caused his name to circulate in various media and social networks during the first days of August 2022.
However, his name had already caused a stir in previous years: in 2013 for his alleged relationship with the murder Jose de Jesus Gallegos Alvarez, the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco at that time; and in 2017 for linking him with a narco bakery business dismantled in Ixtlahuacán del Río.
In November 2017, Sedena personnel and elements of the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office carried out an operation in the community of Mascuala, in Ixtlahuacan del Rio.
As a result, they secured a total of five properties that were identified as operating spaces for one of the main leaders of the CJNG, according to reports. Jesús Eduardo Almaguer Ramírez, the Attorney General from that time.
In one of them, Mexican Army personnel found several sacks of dopeas well as ready-to-bake mix.
“Three sacks of marijuana were seized that were apparently used to process a product made looking like cookies”, commented a military agent to Excelsior during operations.
In the same way, the members of the Sedena came across the installation of industrial ovens. This, added to the appearance of the finished product, allowed them to deduce that the cookies had been manufactured for sale.
In this regard, prosecutor Almaguer reported that the five insured farms were owned by Ricardo Ruiz Velasco, The Double R either The Gut. Even at that time it was revealed that one of the homes inspected by the Army it had the letters ‘RR’ etched into the window panes.
Additionally, it was revealed that said property was used as administrative offices for the narco-confectionery business, from which the cookies were shipped of cannabis for distribution.
In addition to the marijuana, officers seized an unspecified shipment of packaged cookiesvehicles and implements for weapons.
Another relevant finding during the November 2017 operation in Ixtlahuacán del Río was a series of documents that They mentioned, in great detail, the daily activities of prosecutor Almaguer Ramírezwho currently serves as Independent Councilor of Guadalajara.
This, the authorities considered, evidenced an attempted attack against the official and the then State Security Commissionerof whose steps they also had a detailed record.
“We are carrying out an extensive investigation between police corporations, since the way of communicating and informing was a way sui generisit is in a way that the terms are used in the police environment”, Eduardo Almaguer declared in this regard.
