“The nerves betray”: Adán Augusto justified that the mayor of Tijuana asked the drug trafficker to “charge those who do not pay him”

“I would say with all due respect to the mayor, I think that sometimes nerves betray and sometimes one does not explain what one wants to imply. I wouldn’t give it much importance.”

This was expressed by the official at a press conference on August 15 where, in addition, he asked those who launched against the mayor to consider that that message was communicated “late in the morning”.

“You have to understand that at the time he gave that conference, it was the wee hours of the morning. She had come out of a state of tension and surely that was it, “he said from the National Palace.

Montserrat Caballero assured that she will not allow organized crime to steal the rule of law of the municipality.

However, at the same time that the Secretary of the Interior issued his defense, the municipal president reiterated his message towards organized crime, warning that his government “will not allow them to lose the rule of law.”

“In no way are we going to cover up the violence. We gave that message because we are the first responder (…) We will not allow organized crime to give us rules”, he expressed at a press conference from the border state.

“Today we continue with the same message: collect the bills from the thugs. He who understood, understood.”

Last Friday, the municipalities of Tecate, Ensenada, Tijuana and Rosarito witnessed drug blockades and car burning orchestrated by members of the groups of the Pacific Cartel, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and the Arellano Félix Cartel.

According to information from the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), they were 36 vandalism events those accumulated on that day: 15 fires in Tijuana; three in Mexicali; two in Tecate; three in Playas de Rosarito, and two in Ensenada.

It should be noted that the unit, headed by Luis Cresencio Sandoval, declared that he did not know the motive for the attacks – beyond a possible dispute over territory. Which is why he just singled her out as an act of propaganda of these cells.

Questioned about the possibility of considering the acts as terrorismMontserrat Caballero rejected the description, because, she argued, the events in Tijuana did not involve the death of citizens: “We have a white balance in intentional homicides.”

“We classify them as violent, but not as terrorism. Terrorism has its issues and one is homicide (…) Very violent but not terrorist”.

Under that tenor, he added: “At night (August 12) the city was calmer. Relatively little in terms of facts, because the issue is serious (…)

On Saturday there was no longer done in Tijuana, but in other locations. Tijuana with peace of mind. On Sunday there were no (murders). In 72 hours there was only one homicide and none related to the events”, he declared in the meeting with the press.
