BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Aston Villa’s Brazilian defender Diego Carlos faces a long period of inactivity after it was confirmed that he suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
Diego Carlos will have to undergo surgery and then begin rehabilitation, the English Premier League club said on Monday.
Villa did not give deadlines on how long the 29-year-old Brazilian central defender will be without playing.
Diego Carlos was Villa’s big signing during the summer, acquiring him from Sevilla in Spain. He had started the first two Premier League games, a loss to Bournemouth and a 2-1 win against Everton on Saturday.
He was injured during stoppage time at the end of the match against Everton.
Diego Carlos was part of the Brazilian team that won Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games last year.
