SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Logan Webb struck out nine in nine innings of brilliant work, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Saturday.
Webb (11-5) gave up five hits and walked a pair. He picked up his second straight victory after looking effective in seven innings to win at Oakland last weekend.
Camilo Doval got three outs and earned his 17th save. Gregg Allen walked with one out, stole second base and advanced to third on a groundout.
However, Rodolfo Castro lined left field for the final out.
LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a solo homer, helping San Francisco to its fifth win in seven games. Wade also doubled and scored on Joc Pederson’s two-corner shot in the first.
Castro had two hits but Pittsburgh suffered its fifth setback in six games. Tyler Beede (1-2), who reached the majors with San Francisco in 2018, gave up two runs and three hits in three innings as the Pirates’ starter.
For the Pirates, the Dominicans Oneil Cruz 4-0, Castro 4-2. The Venezuelan Tucupita Marcano 3-1.
For the Giants, the Venezuelans Thairo Estrada 3-0, Wilmer Flores 3-1. The Mexican Luis González 4-0.
