Barcelona, 13 Aug. Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernández, admitted that “it was a disappointment” that his team did not go beyond a goalless draw, against Rayo Vallecano, at the premiere of LaLiga Santander at the Spotify Camp Nou.
“The expectation generated may have taken its toll on us. The players are more stressed and anxious. We have lacked calm when making decisions”, considered the Barça coach at a press conference.
In any case, he pointed out that “it is better that there is a positive expectation and pressure to win titles”, unlike what happened last season.
“Today the inside game was about finding the third man. We have done four or five times very well, but we have lacked effectiveness. We haven’t played the best game, but we’ve created scoring chances to win”, said Xavi.
In addition, he admitted that Rayo “defended very well” and that “it is a very hard-working team technically.” In this sense, he said that Barça was “thick” when it came to counteracting the rival’s opposition.
Asked about the substitution of Frenkie de Jong, Xavi wanted to make it clear that “he is not a substitute player, he is an important player”. And he added that he doesn’t know “what is going to happen in the market”, but if he ends up staying with the Barça team “he is a player who is going to give a lot, for sure”.
Pedro González ‘Pedri’ was substituted in the second half with some discomfort, but Xavi explained that after the match he “had a test and there is no injury”. Franck Kessié, who sprained his ankle, “isn’t injured either.” EFE
