Colombians living in the United States: this is how they can obtain their digital ID

The National Registry announced that it will a mass identification of Colombians living in the United Statesthrough the digital ID issued by said institution, in order to streamline and facilitate the procedures of nationals abroad.

The initiative was announced by the national registrar, Alexander Vega Rochaafter holding a meeting with the former Minister of the Environment and Colombia’s new ambassador to the United States, Luis Gilberto Murillo. According to Vega, during In the coming months, the consulates of the North American country will have the corresponding technology to issue the document.

“We are going to promote help to fellow citizens in the US on the issue of digital identification. As you well know, the process of massification of the digital ID begins, and the United States is going to be one of the first countries to change the technology in our consulates,” said the national registrar.

Vega explained that, in this way, the United States would become one of the first countries where the Colombian government will integrate in its consulates the stations with facial biometric system for the digital ID. The official assured that the Installation of these mechanisms will be done before December.

“Colombians will be able to issue the electronic and digital ID, and they will be able to have it on their cell phones. The great advantage is that they will no longer be lost, and they will be able to do all the paperwork digitally,” said Registrar Vega.

For his part, Ambassador Murillo explained: “President Petro has given us the instruction: Once we arrive in the US, let’s do support work with the Colombian community. One of those main aspects will be this collaboration with the National Registry”.

On the other hand, the national registrar also announced that Colombia will be part of the International Observation Mission that the United States will have during the congressional elections next November.

“We are in harmonious collaboration to deploy an observation mission by the Electoral Transparency organization for the congressional elections in the US, which will have the support of our ambassador in Washington, Luis Gilberto MurilloVega Rocha said.
