Argentinian Cerúndolo says goodbye in the first round of the Montreal Masters 1000

The Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo said goodbye this Monday in the first round of the Montreal Masters 1000 when he fell to the Russian Karen Khachanov 7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 6-3 in two hours and 46 minutes.

Cerúndolo, who was making his debut at this tournament, had just won his first ATP title last month in Bastad and arrived with a lot of confidence. After that victory he reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg ATP 500.

Khachanov will meet in the second round against the winner of the match between thirteenth-seeded Croatians Marin Cilic and Borna Coric.

For his part, Finn Emil Ruusuvuori beat Swiss veteran Stanislas Wawrinka also in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Ruusuvuori’s rival in the second round will be Polish Hubert Hurkacs, seeded eighth.
