The EU reaches an agreement to reduce gas consumption this winter


The energy ministers of the European Union (EU) closed a political agreement on Tuesday on a plan to reduce gas consumption with a view to winterin the face of the threat of a total cutoff of supply by Russia.

“It was not an impossible mission. The ministers have reached a political agreement on the reduction of gas demandwith a view to next winter”, reported the presidency of the Council of the EU, in the hands of the Czech Republic this semester.

Many of the European leaders, including the Third Vice President and Minister for the Ecological Transition of Spain, Teresa Ribera, were optimistic upon their arrival at the extraordinary Council today about the possibility of reaching a pact and stressed the importance of show “unity” in the EU in the face of Moscow’s energy blackmail.
