The Ukrainian Children’s Prosecutor’s Office denounced this Saturday that at least 358 children have died and around 683 have been injured in attacks carried out by Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine at the end of February.
Most of the child victims, counting deaths and injuries, have been recorded in the region of Donetsk, with 361; Kharkov, with 194, the capital region, kyiv, with 116; Chernigov (68), Luhansk region (54)Kherson (54), Mikolaiv (48), Zaporizhia (40), Sumy (17), and Zhytomyr (15).
Almost two million Ukrainians are on Russian territory
This new balance is released after Russia confirmed that more than 300,000 Ukrainian children are already on its territory since the beginning of the conflict in what the Government of kyiv considers an “illegal expulsion” of its citizens and Moscow describes with the term “evacuations”.
In total, since the beginning of the war against Ukraine, 1.9 million Ukrainians are on Russian territoryincluding 307,423 children, according to data from the head of the Russian National Center for Defense Management, Mikhail Mizintsev, collected by Interfax.
More than 5,000 civilians killed and 6,800 wounded
The Prosecutor also details that 2,188 educational institutions have been damaged due to shelling by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Of these, according to the agency, 221 have been completely destroyed.
It must be remembered that some 5,110 Ukrainian civilians have died and almost 6,800 have been injured as a result of the Russian invasion, according to the latest updated balance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, published last Monday.
The UN has verified, in this same balance, 346 children killed and 547 injured since the beginning of the war. However, both the United Nations and the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office fear that these data are actually lower than the real figures given the difficulty of collecting information during the conflict.
